In 1.the nip is in its open condition. Both rolls are deflecting naturally under their own weight.
ln2.the nip is in its closed condition, i.e. the hydraulic cylinders have been actuated, lifting theFlexiNip roll up into contact with the FlexiHeat roll. Both rolls are still deflecting naturally under their own weight at this point and line force distribution is not uniform.
In 3.the FlexiNip roll and hydraulic cylinders have been pressurised to establish the nip in minimum load condition. The FlexiNip roll shell is deflected sufficiently to overcome its own natural deflection and that of the FlexiHeat roll. The distribution of line force is now uniform across the width of the nip.
In 4.the nip is in its maximum load condition. As line force is increased through its available range, the control system simultaneously increases the hydraulic pressures in the cylinders and the FlexiNip rll's internal pressure at the correct ratio. Although both rolls are deflecting at this point, their profiles are matched and uniform distribution of line force is maintained.
